Why Girth Is the Most Important Measurement
Every gymnast’s body is different. Torso length, shoulder width, and overall proportions vary greatly, even among athletes of the same height or age. Because of this, standard sizing based only on age is often inaccurate for gymnastics leotards.
Girth is the most important measurement because it reflects torso length, which directly affects how a leotard fits. Girth is measured from the top of one shoulder, down through the legs, and back up to the same shoulder.
Since gymnastics leotards are designed to stretch, girth should always be the primary measurement when selecting a size. Choosing the correct girth ensures comfort, proper fit, and freedom of movement.

For best results, always choose size based on torso-girth.

⚫️ The gymnast should wear undergarments only.
⚫️ Stand straight with natural posture.
⚫️ Keep the tape snug, not tight.
⚫️ Measure torso-girth first, then chest, waist, and hips.
